MOSCOW, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The Colombian Football Federation (CFF) still has hopes that midfielder James Rodriguez could be fit to play against England when the two sides face each other in the last 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday.

The Colombian playmaker, who was the top scorer in 2014 World Cup, limped out of Colombia's 1-0 win over Senegal on June 28 after just half an hour and had been struggling for fitness all tournament.

However, the CFF have issued a communique which will give their supporters hope. It reads: "James Rodriguez underwent a scan which showed that he is suffering from minor edema in his right soleus muscle, but that there has been no muscle tear."

An edema is an accumulation of fluid, which means he has a chance of playing a part in a game where his presence would be a major boost to Colombia's attacking options.
