ISTANBUL, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Thursday detained 33 suspected Islamic State (IS) militants in Istanbul, local media reported.
Police launched simultaneous operations in 11 places in the city, seizing documents and digital material linked to the militant group, IHA news agency said.
Citing preliminary police report, IHA noted the suspects were planning to join the IS in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Libya, where the terror group is still active.
Among the detainees, 28 are foreigners, the agency added without revealing their nationalities.
Turkey has come under a spate of deadly attacks conducted by the IS over the years which killed more than 300 people.
