BERLIN, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Niklas Moisander will extend his running contract at Werder Bremen, the Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Friday.
"Niklas plays an important role in our squad planning for the coming years. In the last two seasons he has proven his leadership qualities on and off the pitch. We are all the more pleased that he will stay with us," Bremen's sporting director Frank Baumann said.
The 32-year-old defender joined the "Green-Whites" from Italian outfit Sampadoria in 2016 and made ever since 55 outings, providing two goals.
"I feel very well with the Werder family and in the city. I am glad that I can be a part of this story in the next few years," Moisander told the club's official homepage.
Werder Bremen's head coach Florian Kohfeldt added: "Niklas is an absolute leader within the team. With his experience he will be a stabilizing factor and important element in our defence in the coming years."
The "Green-Whites" have completed the Bundesliga campaign 2017-2018 on the 11th position of the standings.
