MOSCOW, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Russia-France relations and prospects of their cooperation on global issues in a greeting message to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on the occasion of France's Bastille Day, the Kremlin said Saturday.

Putin highly praised Russia-France relations, which traditionally play an important role in European affairs and in ensuring peace, security and stability on the continent, according to the Kremlin statement.

Putin said he is confident that by acting together, the two countries can do much to resolve current regional and global issues.

The Russian president also said that he hopes Macron's visit to Russia can facilitate the development of mutually beneficial relations and political dialogue between Moscow and Paris in various spheres.

Macron visited Russia's second largest city of St. Petersburg in May when they two leaders discussed issues on Iran, Syria and Ukraine. They also agreed to further develop bilateral relations.
