ANKARA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Two militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) surrendered to authorities of Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province on Saturday, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
The militants used to work for the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), regarded by Ankara as the Syrian affiliate of the PKK, the report said, citing a security source.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, strived for the establishment of an independent Kurdish state by armed combat since the 1970s.
Since the beginning of this year, Turkey has intensified its airstrikes and land operations to fight against PKK militants in northern Syria and Iraq.
