BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- China's national observatory on Sunday evening renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms.

Between Sunday evening and Monday evening, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, Jiangsu and Shandong will be battered by heavy rain, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.

Meanwhile, rainstorms will also hit Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Qinghai and Sichuan.

Rainfall could be up to 240 mm per hour in some regions of Guangxi, Hainan, Jiangsu and Shandong, the NMC said.

Ampil, this year's 10th typhoon, made landfall in Shanghai at noon Sunday. At 5 p.m., the eye of Ampil was in coastal Rudong County, Jiangsu Province. Ampil is expected to reach east China's Shandong Province around Monday noon before moving further north, the NMC said earlier.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
