ALGIERS, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Algeria and Brazil on Monday agreed to strengthen their economic partnership by amending signed cooperation agreements.

The two countries held in Algiers their second bilateral strategic dialogue meeting, which was co-chaired by visiting Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes, and his Algerian counterpart, Abdelkader Messahel.

Following the talks he held with Nunes, the Algerian foreign minister said "we have agreed to complete some of the agreements."

Legal framework will be provided to empower institutions from the two countries "to work with ease and with all the necessary guarantees," he said.

He noted that the two sides agreed to organize a meeting between their two trade chambers as soon as possible in order to establish the business forum.

He expressed the need for Algeria to benefit from Brazil's experience in the fields of industry, agriculture and public works, saying "the Algerian market is very promising as security and peace are guaranteed for investments."

Messahel further assumed that the 3.5-billion-U.S. dollars worth trade exchange between the two countries is small compared to their capabilities.

Messahel said "Brazil and Algeria relations are very strong, especially since the visit of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to Brazil in 2005, which gave a new impetus to this cooperation."

Defense and security were also on the agenda of this meeting, Messahel said, noting that the two countries agreed to continue their cooperation in this area.

On the other hand, the Algerian foreign minister indicated the existence of "strong consultation" between the two countries on international issues, stressing that both reject "foreign interference in the internal affairs of countries regardless of their source."

"We support, instead, the settlement of disputes within the framework of dialogue and consultation to establish a secure world," he added.

For his part, the Brazilian minister called for strengthening economic partnership and facilitating investment between the two countries.

He hailed political relations between the two countries as "very consistent," saying his visit to Algeria confirms Brazil's determination to continue its "privileged" relations with Algeria.

He pointed out that the two countries "share the same basic principles, especially adherence to the social aspect of economic development and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries."

The two countries look forward to being "advocates of cooperation and peace in our two regions," he concluded.

At the end of his visit to Algeria, the Brazilian foreign minister was received by Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia and they discussed the outcome of the meeting and prospects of bilateral cooperation.
