BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications has publicized a major case on profiting from obscene online content.
Five suspects were arrested in the case in east China's Jiangxi Province, with more than 200 online live-streaming platforms showing obscene content and performances, as well as over three million yuan (around 442,000 U.S. dollars) were involved.
Local police opened the case in March during the ongoing nationwide campaign against illegal online content, when they saw a "couple," both surnamed Hu, post obscene performances on several online live-streaming websites.
According to the investigation, the female Hu had been engaged in such performances since November 2017 by joining multiple live-streaming networks, which brought her 2,000 yuan on average per day.
The police discovered the structure of the group of suspects behind a major live-streaming platform, including 220 social contact groups, 180 hosting groups and others.
"The lower thresholds and wider spread of obscene live-streaming platforms on cell phones has made it easier to lure juveniles, doing serious damage to society," said an official with the national office.
Organs in public security, industry and information technology, cyberspace affairs and other areas related to the nationwide campaign have been fulfilling their duties to clean up the online live-streaming industry, according to the office.
