TEHRAN, July 25 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian UN official slammed the recent approval of the "Jewish Nation-State" law by the Israeli parliament as a "racist" law, Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.

The approval of the law "proves that racism is in the very nature of the Israeli regime," Iranian Deputy Ambassador to the UN Eshaq Al-e Habib said.

"The occupation of Palestine (by Israel) has been the root cause of the conflicts in the Middle East," he said, addressing a UN Security Council meeting in New York on Tuesday.

Iran's Foreign Ministry has also strongly condemned the law approved by the Israeli parliament as "racist."

The Israeli parliament passed the "Jewish Nation-State" law on last Thursday that makes Hebrew the country's national language, and Jerusalem as its capital. It will also grant diaspora Jews the right of return to Israel.
