BEIRUT, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The chief of a Lebanese non-governmental organization (NGO) said on Wednesday that the Lebanese-Chinese cooperation must be boosted on all levels.

"The Lebanese-Chinese relations are very important and are witnessing positive growth on economic, cultural, artistic, educational and social levels," Warek Kumayha, head of the Lebanese-Chinese Dialogue Road association, was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

His remarks came during his meeting with a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance Chinese-Lebanese ties under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The initiative, proposed by China in 2013, refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which aim at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road.

Meanwhile, Raed Khoury, Lebanon's caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, told Xinhua that China's government and private sectors are highly interested in investing in the country.

"We have been told by the Chinese that they are very much interested in investing in Lebanon, especially in infrastructure, roads, telecommunications and power plants," he said.

Lebanon signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese government during the China-Arab States Expo held last September in China's northwestern city of Yinchuan.

The MoU aims at promoting economic cooperation between the two countries under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
