KIGALI, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's National Electoral Commission (NEC) Monday released a list of 521 nominated candidates ahead of parliamentary elections slated for September.
These include 302 from different political parties, four independent candidates, 26 for the youth, 10 for people living with disabilities, and 179 for women slots, said Kalisa Mbanda, chairperson of NEC.
The ruling party Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) has 70 nominated candidates and its six coalition parties has 10, said Mbanda at a press conference announcing the final list of the candidates in Kigali, capital city of Rwanda.
The chairperson said the number of contestants rises up from 410 in 2013's parliamentary elections.
The central African country is set to hold parliamentary elections from Sept. 2 to 4 to elect all the 80 members of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house, for a five-year term, according to the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
