PARIS, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Two men who planned to join insurgents in Syria on boat were arrested in May, news channel BFMTV reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, officers from the Directorate General for Internal Security (DGSI) on May 18 detained a 45-old-year suspect in Herault, south France on attempts to reach Syria on sail boat where stored food and calculated various navigation routes lining Hherault and Syria were found.
The man, who planned to take with him his 10-year-old daughter, told investigators he had wanted to join troops of Omar Omsen, a French member of al-Qaeda terrorist cell located in Idlib on the Turkish-Syrian border and who have recruited scores of French nationals.
His accomplice, 21, was also detained at the end of May in eastern district of Isere.
The two suspects were indicted for criminal terrorist criminal conspiracy and placed in pre-trial detention, the report added.
