MEXICO CITY, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Mexico's President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Friday he will introduce two reform packages in congress to fight corruption and improve people's welfare after taking office on December 1.
One set of reforms will make graft, electoral fraud and fuel theft serious crimes, he said at a press conference. They will also remove presidential immunity from the constitution to allow a sitting president to be charged with corruption and electoral crimes.
The other set of reforms will reduce the salary of high-ranking officials, and raise pensions, especially for the disabled and the poor.
The reforms will also provide free education at all levels and particularly guarantee young people the right to education and employment.
Mexico will have money for these measures if government corruption is eliminated, he said.
Lopez Obrador and his leftist party Morena won the July 1 election by a landslide.
