GAZA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- A senior Hamas movement official stated Friday that the success of the talks held in Egypt between leaders of various Palestinian factions, including Hamas, and Egyptian officials over a possible cease-fire with Israel in the Gaza Strip "is imminent."
Khalil Al-Hayya, deputy Hamas chief in the Gaza Strip told reporters in Friday rallies in eastern Gaza that the talks over a possible cease-fire with Israel in the Gaza Strip "are about to end with breaking the siege or at least extremely relaxing it."
"We are so close to reach Egyptian, United Nations and Qatari-brokered understandings in relation to achieving calm in the Gaza Strip," said al-Hayya.
He noted that the current talks held in Cairo "are based on the cease-fire understandings sponsored by Egypt between Israel and the Palestinian factions."
The meetings between leaders of the Palestinian factions and senior Egyptian security intelligence officers were held without the presence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah Party, which refused to reach a cease-fire deal with Israel without the presence of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
