RABAT, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Title-holders Wydad Casablanca of Morocco booked their ticket in CAF Champions League quarter-finals after beating Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 1-0 on Friday night.
At Complex Mohammed VI in Casablanca, Wydad only needed a draw to guarantee a knockout berth, but a win would secure them the first spot of Group C.
After a poor and quite balanced first half, Wydad entered the second half more determined and translated its possession to a goal from a shot outside the box through midfielder Anas Al Asbahi at the 56th minute.
After this win, the two-time champions Wydad amassed an unassailable 11 points to secure the first spot of Group C.
Earlier Friday, Horoya Conakry of Guinea beat the Togolese side Togo-Port 2-1 to replace the South Africans in second place with 8 points.
In Group C, Wydad will move to Togo to face last-place Togo-Port, while Mamelodi Sundowns will play their last chance against Horoya of Guinea. Enditem
