HARARE, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa said Monday he has put up a strong constitutional court petition challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa's victory in the July 30 polls.

According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Mnangagwa polled 50.8 percent of the vote, beating his main rival Chamisa who garnered 44.3 percent.

However, Chamisa has rejected the results, alleging they were rigged by ZEC in favor of Mnangagwa.

The constitutional court case is set for hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

"I would like to guarantee you that we have put up a very strong case to overturn the electoral fraud," Chamisa told reporters on Monday.

"I have put together an A-team of experienced, tried and tested legal experts drawn from the best minds in the region and in the country," he said.

Mnangagwa is being represented by local Zimbabwean lawyers. In his response to the petition, Mnangagwa is arguing that Chamisa failed to lodge a valid election petition challenging his victory and wants the court to dismiss the petition. Enditem
