Saudi king vows to fight terrorism, extremism

RIYADH, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud stressed on Wednesday his country's firm stance to fight terrorism and extremism to ensure security and stability in the region and the whole world, Saudi Press Agency reported,

The king made the remarks when hosting the annual reception for heads of state, Islamic dignitaries and guests for the Hajj season at the Royal Court at Mina palace on Wednesday.

He said that it was an honor for Saudi Arabia to serve pilgrims and protect their safety and comfort.

"We deeply believe that serving pilgrims, Umrah performers and visitors of the Two Holy Mosques is our duty and is a great honor of which we feel proud."

After the reception, the Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Mohammad Saleh bin Taher Benten said that the kingdom is proud of hosting more than 150 million pilgrims from around the world during the past ten years.

He said that the country is getting ready to receive more than 300 million Muslims over the next ten years.
