SINGAPORE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, as the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went up 1.56 percent, or 50 points, to close at 3,249.89.
A total of 1.47 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.5 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.1 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 210 to 181.
The STI index closed down 0.15 percent, or 4.82 points, to close at 3,199.89 on Tuesday.
Stock trading of Singapore Exchange was suspended on Wednesday for the Hari Raya Haji holiday. Enditem
