BEIRUT, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- A Labanese lawmaker on Monday blasted Syria's "blackmail" over the use of the Nasib Border Crossing for the export of Lebanese products to the Gulf.

"We refuse to be blackmailed or threatened by Syria when it comes to using Nasib border," Ziad Hawat, a parliament member from the Lebanese Forces party which opposes the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, said on Twitter.

The Lebanese can prevent any Syrian truck from entering their country if Syria does not allow Lebanon to use the Nasib border, Hawat warned.

As the only functioning crossing between Jordan and Syria, Nasib is vital for the transport of goods from Lebanon and Syria to Jordan and Gulf states.

The Syrian authorities said earlier that Lebanon must send an official request to Syria for the use of the Nasib Border Crossing to send its exports to the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri has announced his refusal to restore ties with Assad's regime or visit Syria under any circumstances even if it would cost him his premiership.
