LONDON, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The pressure continues to mount on Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho following his side's 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Monday night.

The defeat comes on the back of a 3-2 loss away to Brighton & Hove Albion and follows another poor defensive display after Mourinho switched his side around, playing midfielder Ander Herrera on the left of a three-man defense and dropping Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.

Following the game, Mourinho gave a tense press conference during which he claimed to have won the tactical battle against their rivals despite losing the game.

"My team played so well and strategically we were so good and you want to try and transform this press conference," Mourinho said to reporters in the Old Trafford press room.

When he was reminded that United had lost 3-0, the coach then held up 3 fingers; "3-0! Do you know what this is? 3-0... But it also means three Premierships, and I won more Premierships alone than the other 19 [current Premier League] managers together."

"Three for me and two for them... So respect man, respect, respect, respect," he said, standing up and walking out of the press room.

The fact that the three Premier League titles he has won were with Chelsea and the two other titles he made reference to are those won by Pep Guardiola and Manuel Pellegrini at United's bitter rivals Manchester City can have escaped nobody.

There is a thought that Mourinho's third seasons at clubs are always difficult. His last spell at Chelsea ended midway through his third campaign, while he left Real Madrid after a difficult third season in which he clashed with journalists, supporters and Real officials.

Prior to joining Real Madrid he left Inter Milan after two years, winning the Champions League but leaving an ageing squad that looked burned out when he was replaced by Rafael Benitez the following campaign.

Meanwhile, his first spell with Chelsea ended early into his fourth season following a year of deteriorating relations with club owner Roman Abramovich.

He was brought into Old Trafford to put the club back on track after David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal had failed to achieve success after Sir Alex Ferguson's marathon reign, but although he won the League Cup and the Europa League in his first season in charge, there is no sign that United are any closer to competing for the Premier League than when he took over.

Last season saw Mourinho's side finish 19 points behind Manchester City and the two games they have lost this campaign means they have already clocked up as many defeats as Pep Guardiola's side did in the whole of last season.

In short, Mourinho hasn't improved things on the pitch, he has had arguments about potential signings and he is creating as many headlines for his behavior as his team's performances. The question remains how much longer this can go on before something has to give and the club says enough is enough.
