KAMPALA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Ugandan police on Thursday arrested another legislator Francis Zaake over the stoning of President Yoweri Museveni's convoy on Aug. 13 in the northwestern district of Arua.
Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima in a statement said Zaake was arrested at the country's Entebbe International Airport where he was scheduled to be flown out of the country for further treatment.
Kayima said Zaake, who has been on the run, escaped out of Arua Hospital where he was receiving treatment after sustaining injuries following his arrest by the security forces.
"This morning police found Zaake at Entebbe International Airport while trying to flee the country and accordingly apprehended him," said Kayima.
The legislator's lawyer Asuman Basalirwa told reporters that his client was scheduled to be flown out of the country following his deteriorating health condition.
"As of now he can't fly out for treatment. As far as we are concerned Zaake is not wanted. Those who were wanted were arrested, taken to court and are out on bail," Basalirwa told reporters at the airport.
Kayima said Zaake is likely to face treason charges like five of his colleagues and their supporters, who are now out on bail.
He said for now Zaake will be admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital where he will be treated and at an appropriate time will be taken to court.
It is alleged that on Aug. 13, the suspects and others still at large in Arua municipality obstructed and violently attacked by stoning one of the vehicles in the presidential convoy.
