BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali is paying an official visit to China on Sept. 1-4 on invitation while attending the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
This is the first visit to China by Ali as prime minister of the east African country.
He was sworn in as Ethiopia's prime minister in April 2018. Before this, he was elected the chairman of Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) in March, and the chairman of Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization (OPDO), one of the four coalition parties of the EPRDF, in February.
Since 2010, Ali had served as an OPDO central committee member, a member of the federal House of People's Representatives (lower chamber of the parliament), Director General of the government research institute Science and Technology Information Center (STIC), Minister of Science and Technology, the head of the Oromia Urban Development and Planning Office, and the head of OPDO Secretariat, among others.
Ali, 42, has several degrees from universities in Ethiopia, South Africa, Britain and the United States.
