ATHENS, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Greece's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 1.8 percent in the second quarter of 2018 year-on-year, remaining on a growth course for the sixth successive quarter, Greece's Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced on Monday.

The development was attributed by ELSTAT experts mainly to exports and consumption, according to Greek national news agency AMNA.

Provisional data indicated that exports of goods and services rose 9.4 percent in comparison with the second quarter of 2017, according to a press statement posted on the authority's website.

Total consumption expenditure spending grew 0.8 percent in the second quarter this year compared with the same period last year, ELSTAT said.

Greece has returned to growth after a debt crisis which hit hard the country since late 2009.

On Aug. 20 the country exited the third of the painful bailout programs under which remarkable fiscal adjustment was achieved and structural reforms to support growth were introduced in exchange of multi-billion financial aid by international lenders.
