AMMAN, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday met with visiting U.S. envoy James Jeffrey the recent developments in war-torn Syria.
During the meeting, Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's call for a political solution to the Syria crisis, according to a ministry statement.
The solution needs to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of Syria and should be accepted by all Syrians, he said.
They also discussed the issue of Syrian refugees as well as Jordan's pressure by hosting a large number of Syrians.
According to official figures, there are 1.3 million Syrian refugees living in Jordan.
The Jordanian minister called for continued international efforts to provide support for the Syrian refugees, adding that his country encourages the voluntary return of refugees.
Jeffrey, U.S. special representative for Syria, is currently on a tour to the region.
