CAIRO, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Egypt on Monday highlighted the importance of restoring stability in Libya by enabling state institutions, especially the military and security entities.
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Egypt is following up the recent dangerous developments in Libya, especially the armed clashes in Tripoli and its suburbs.
The ministry also called for avoiding chaos spread by militias to enable the Libyans to maintain the country's resources to build a modern, united and stable country.
Southern Tripoli witnessed violent clashes in the past week between government forces and armed militias, killing at least 41 and injuring 123 others.
The reasons for the clashes remain unknown, with growing tensions and military mobilization over the past few days between armed groups from outside and inside the city.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the continued escalation of violence in and around Tripoli on Sunday, saying that "indiscriminate use of force is a violation of international humanitarian and human rights law."
Following the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime, Libya has been suffering escalating violence and political division.
