JERUSALEM, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Antitrust Authority (IAA) announced Tuesday that it would investigate whether technology giants operating in the country are threatening competition.
The technology giants which will be probed include U.S. companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon, the IAA said.
The IAA seeks to receive references from the public and Israeli high-tech professionals regarding competition related to the Internet economy.
"Regulators around the world become aware of the rise of 'super platforms,' technology companies that provide an infrastructure for digital content distribution and services that can exercise their power toward content providers and consumers," the IAA said.
The European Union recently imposed an unprecedented fine of 4.3 billion euros (4.98 billion U.S. dollars) on Google for exploiting its control of the smartphone market to promote its products, at the expense of its competitors.
