TRIPOLI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two firefighters were injured on Tuesday when trying to put out fire in an oil tank south of the Libyan capital Tripoli, which is witnessing violent clashes between government forces and armed militias, according to the National Oil Corporation.
The Corporation demanded an immediate cease-fire to save the lives of its workers in the oil tanks compounds in southern Tripoli, who have not been able to leave due to the heavy clashes.
The Chairman of the Corporation Mustafa Sinalla condemned the violence that caused fire in the oil tank.
He stressed that the priority of the Corporation is to "evacuate its workers and save their lives," stressing that "material losses will be very huge."
Southern Tripoli has been witnessing violent clashes since last week between government forces and armed militias, which killed and injured many people.
Libya has been suffering escalating violence and chaos since the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Gaddafi's regime.
