NEW DELHI, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- India's meteorological department (IMD) Thursday warned of extremely heavy rainfall in eastern state of Odisha in the next 24 hours, officials said.
"Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain at isolated places is very likely to take place in Odisha," said a warning issued by the IMD.
According to officials, squally winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are very likely to take place off West Bengal and Odisha coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as rough to very rough sea conditions are likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal off Odisha.
Torrential rains have resulted in flooding in many districts of northern state of Uttar Pradesh, affecting more than 500,000 people in the state.
