ABUJA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Two persons were confirmed killed and four others hospitalized after being rescued from the rubble of a collapsed building in Nigeria's northwestern state of Kano, a rescue official said on Thursday.
The old building collapsed late Wednesday in Gwammaja area of Dala district in Kano, the commercial and investment hub of northern Nigeria, said Saidu Mohammed, spokesman for the state's firefighting agency which joined in the rescue operation.
Mohammed said the rescued victims are currently in critical condition at a local hospital.
He told Xinhua the cause of the incident is unknown, but another official source said an investigation has been launched to ascertain that.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency had predicted that there would be heavy rains this year, and so people who live in old houses with cracks should renovate their buildings to prevent building collapse.
