TOKYO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as the yen's softer tone gave exporter issues a lift, while tech shares here gained tracking their counterparts' advance on Wall Street overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 170.77 points, or 0.75 percent, from Thursday to 22,992.09.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 12.11 points, or 0.71 percent, at 1,722.13.
Marine transportation, machinery, and electric machinery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
