BEIRUT, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Fiscal Attorney Judge Ali Ibrahim submitted a claim against an employee in the finance ministry and another one in the interior ministry accusing them of embezzlement of public funds, local media reported.
"The two detainees were referred to Beirut's first investigative judge Ghassan Oweidat for further investigation of the case," according to Lebanon Files, a local news agency.
Less than a week ago, Marwan Abboud, head of the Supreme Disciplinary Board, blasted public employees for their widespread corruption.
"Services offered by public departments are very bad and most of the public employees are corrupt," he said
He accused the "corrupt" government employees of "doing their jobs in return for bribes" or "getting paid without fulfilling their duties and responsibilities."
According to GAN, a business anti-corruption portal, the public services sector in Lebanon carries a high corruption risk for businesses.
"Bribes and irregular payments are often exchanged when applying for public utilities in Lebanon," it said.
