KABUL, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- An Afghan court imprisoned 21 suspects including two women over smuggling drugs after investigating into 14 drugs-related cases elsewhere in the country, a statement said on Wednesday.

"Over the last seven days, during the Central Narcotics Tribunal (CNT) primary and appellate court's open sessions, up to 21 suspects including two women involved in 14 drug-related cases have been sentenced from 13 months to 15 years in jail," Criminal Justice Task Force of Afghanistan (CJTF) said in the statement.

Central Narcotics Tribunal (CNT) is a special Afghan court for jurisdiction of major drug cases.

Up to 28 kg heroin, 45 kg morphine, 451 kg of poppy opium, 363 kg hashish, 1 kg chemical stuff and 123 grams methamphetamine have also been seized from the suspects in different provinces of the country, the statement noted.

In 2017, some 9,000 tons of opium were produced in Afghanistan.
