German Expo 2020 pavilion in Dubai to build on Shanghai Expo success: officials

DUBAI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The German Pavilion committee for the Expo 2020 in Dubai presented here on Wednesday the concept of Germany's presence at the upcoming world expo in the Gulf Arab emirates in two years.

In attendance of Germany's designated Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ernst Peter Fischer, Dietmar Schmitz, Commissioner General of the German Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, presented the concept "Campus Germany" to members of the UAE and international media.

According to Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, the fair entity of the German city of Cologne which organizes the German pavilion 2020, "we were awarded best pavilion at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai by the then Expo organizing committee due to our innovative concept, and on this success we want to built upon."

The German Pavilion will be located in the Expo 2020's Sustainability District and will occupy 4,600 suare meters. "We expect up to three million visitors to our pavilion," said Böse.

Ambassador Fischer, who worked during his diplomatic career for several years at the German consulate in Shanghai, said the German Pavilion will showcase solutions for renewable energy, future of science, artificial intelligence and products around the fourth industrial revolution.

Expo 2020 will run from October 20 until April 10, 2021 under the theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future."

The entire idiosyncratic event aims to attract 25 million visitors in total with 70 percent of visitors expected to come from outside the UAE, according to Najeeb Mohamed Al Ali, Executive Director of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau.

Al Ali said that 170 countries have committed themselves to participating so far and construction of the Expo 2020 district runs according to plan.
