BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislature demanded strengthened earthquake relief law enforcement while discussing an inspection report on the work Tuesday.

The NPC Standing Committee on Tuesday convened the second plenary meeting of the inspection teams in Beijing, with Zhang Chunxian and Arken Imirbaki, both vice chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) in attendance.

Arken Imirbaki stressed the importance of taking effective measures to enforce the Law on Protecting Against and Mitigating Earthquake Disasters in all respects after listening to opinions put forward by members representing the inspection teams and related departments of the State Council.

He also urged to make efforts in further modernizing the mechanism and capacity of earthquake prevention and relief, so as to ensure the law enforcement inspection has good outcomes.

In accordance with a statement issued after the first plenary meeting of the inspection teams held by the NPC Standing Committee held in July, groups of lawmakers would be sent to Jilin, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Gansu provinces and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to check the enforcement of the Law on Protecting Against and Mitigating Earthquake Disasters.

During inspection, the lawmakers focused on reviewing earthquake relief mechanisms at local government levels, the development of earthquake monitoring networks, earthquake-proofing of construction projects, especially schools, hospitals and rural residential buildings, facilities for rescue and relief and rehabilitation after previous earthquakes.

A report will be produced after the inspection is concluded in September. The report will be submitted to the NPC Standing Committee for deliberation in October. Enditem
