MALE, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Maldives Elections Commission said on Thursday that the announcement of official results of the presidential election will not be delayed.

Elections Commission Spokesperson Ahmed Akram told Xinhua that despite some concerns raised by the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), there would be no delay in the announcement of the election results.

According to the country's election law, the Elections Commission must announce the official results within seven days of the election.

The PPM late Wednesday told local journalists that it had shared some concerns with the Elections Commission over the recently concluded polls while Elections Commission Chief Ahmed Shareef had also confirmed to local journalists that the PPM had filed several complaints.

Shareef said the commission will look into these concerns to find out if it affects the outcome of the elections.

However, Shareef assured that the commission would not delay the announcement of the official results beyond the legally mandated seven day period, local media reported.

According to provisional results released by the Elections Commission earlier this week, Joint Opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had won last Sunday's presidential elections after securing 58.3 percent votes.
