BERLIN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Cyber-fraud had caused 71.4 million euros in loss in Germany throughout 2017, a hike from 50.9 million euros a year earlier, according to the situation report "Cybercrime" released by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) on Thursday.
Around 86,000 cybercrime cases were reported by the police in 2017, 4 percent higher than a year earlier, according to the report.
Among the cybercrime cases, in May 2017, the ransomware "WannaCry" paralyzed hundreds of thousands of computer systems. The software had switched off ticket machines of the German railway company (DB), resulting in long lines at the information centers of many train stations.
The BKA said the targets for cybercrime range from business enterprises, critical infrastructures such as those in energy sectors, to private mobile phones.
Offenders increasingly use the so-called Darknet, and there are platforms on which criminal goods such as weapons, drugs or malware are offered, the BKA said, noting the importance of international cooperation.
