NAKASEKE, Uganda, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday opened the first ceramic factory in the country in the remote central district of Nakaseke.
While commissioning the Chinese-owned Goodwill Ceramic factory, Museveni said the plant will help the country save foreign exchange used for importation of floor and wall tiles.
Uganda will save 35 million U.S. dollars a year through import substitution and also export tiles worth 15 million dollars.
Zheng Zhuqiang, Chinese ambassador to Uganda, said more Chinese investors are coming to Uganda thanks to the good relations between the two countries.
The 30 million dollar factory is located in Liao Shen Industrial Park, one of the Chinese industrial parks in Uganda.
Frank Yang, managing director of Goodwill, said the factory, once fully operational, will employ over 2,000 skilled and non-skilled locals.
The factory has a capacity of producing over 40,000 square meters per day and targets both the local and east African regional market, he said.
