Macedonia, Serbia to build joint railway station at border crossing

SKOPJE, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Macedonia and Serbia will construct a joint railway station with common border customs and inspection services on the border crossing Tabanovce, a project worth 4.5 million euros (around 5. 1 million U.S. dollars), local media reported on Wednesday.

The project presented by the Macedonian Minister of Transport and Communication Gjorgi Sugarevski aims to reduce train travel time and boost the cooperation between the customs administration, phytosanitary and veterinary inspection of the two countries.

According to Sugarevski, the project will consist on the construction of a building where the employees of Macedonia and Serbia, working in the border police, customs administration, inspection and state railway companies ,will work.

The construction, according to the minister, will start in 2020 and to be concluded in 2024.

"The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has already approved the funds that will be used on this project," said Sugarevski.
