ATHENS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The 18.1 percent of Greece's population faced the risk of poverty in 2017, marginally lower than the 18.2 percent estimated in 2016, the Greek statistical authority (ELSTAT) said on Thursday.
According to a survey conducted in 6,176 households across the country, the average monthly spending on purchases totaled 1,415 euros (1,627 U.S. dollars) and 547.51 euros per person.
The largest part of average household spending was food (20.4 percent), followed by housing (14.1 percent), transport (12.9 percent) and education services (3.2 percent), according to the survey.
Greece exited this August the bailout programs which helped her since 2010, and the ailing economy is on the mend, but the average Greek household still faces difficulties to heal wounds caused by deep recession and austerity. (1 euro= 1.15 U.S. dollars)
