KIEV, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov discussed cooperation between their countries in the transport sector on Friday, the presidential press service said.

During their meeting in Ukraine's southern city of Odessa, Poroshenko said that the transport connectivity between Ukraine and Bulgaria has witnessed a significant growth recently due to the increased number of railway and air routes.

The start of the modernization of the Odessa-Reni highway in southern Ukraine heading towards Bulgaria has also contributed to increased transport links, the Ukrainian leader said.

Once fully put into service, the highway will help to reduce the travel time between Odessa and Bulgaria's port city of Varna roughly two-fold, Poroshenko added.

For his part, Borissov stressed the need to develop water traffic between the two Black Sea countries.

Poroshenko and Borissov also discussed prospects for the construction of a bridge crossing on the European transport corridor connecting Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey.

Borissov arrived in Ukraine on Thursday for a two-day visit.
