TOKYO, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Ten people were injured on Saturday as fireworks exploded near the ground at a fireworks event in Tsuchiura city, Ibaraki prefecture in eastern Japan.
According to local police, the 10 people, including children, sustained minor injuries including burns, and the police are now investigating the details of the accident.
The fireworks exploded around 6:30 p.m. local time near the ground at the venue of a national fireworks competition participated by some 56 fireworks makers, according to local reports.
According to the executive committee of the event, the fireworks event was suspended around 7:40 p.m. local time to ensure the safety of the spectators as the wind there became stronger.
