MANAGUA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Nicaragua said Saturday that 12 of its 15 provinces and two special regions have been affected by heavy rain in the past 24 hours.
Some areas in the 12 provinces were greatly impacted, including 12 municipalities in six provinces that received the brunt of the rain, said Rogelio Flores, the chief of staff for civil defense.
Members of the civil defense are on alert and monitoring the meteorological phenomenon affecting the country from the Disaster Operations Center and the Emergency Communication System.
Some 15,000 agents continue to be deployed to protect citizens who may need assistance, said Francisco Diaz, the chief of the national police.
The government has recorded 1,215 people across the country that have voluntarily evacuated and 1,951 homes that have been affected by the rain, said Rosario Murillo, vice-president and presidential spokesperson.
The authorities have not reported any deaths caused by flooding from overflowing rivers.
