YAOUNDE, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Voting for the Cameroon presidential election began early Sunday.
Voters were beginning to queue up outside voting centers which had been set across the country, the Cameroonian electoral body, Elections Cameroon (Elecam) said.
According to Elecam, 6,617,854 voters are set to cast their votes in some 24,988 polling stations across the country.
Voting started at 8 a.m. local time and will end at 6 p.m. local time.
Six diplomatic missions and 11 international organizations have been accredited to observe the presidential poll in the country, Elecam said.
According to Cameroon Electoral Code, the results of the election will be proclaimed by the Constitutional Council within no more than 15 days of the close of the poll.
It was still early to ascertain whether voting will take place in the restive Anglophone regions of Southwest and Northwest where armed separatists have vowed to disrupt the vote, an Elecam official in the Southwest told Xinhua.
The armed separatists are fighting to create a new nation in the two regions called "Ambazonia".
