Algeria, Canada discuss counterterrorism

ALGIERS, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Top parliamentary officials from Algeria and Canada met on Monday in Algiers and discussed counterterrorism, the upper house of the Algerian parliament said in a statement.

According to the statement, Abdelkader Bensalah, speaker of the upper house of the parliament (Council of the Nation), "exchanged views on issues of mutual interest in general, including counterterrorism" with a Canadian parliamentary delegation led by Senator Raynell Andreychuk.

The statement said the two parties also discussed the situation in Libya, Mali and Western Sahara, and stressed the need to respect the international legitimacy in resolving these crises.

Canada and Algeria are co-chairing the Capacity-building in the West Africa Region Working Group which is among structures of the UN-sponsored Global Counterterrorism Forum. Enditem
