LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- A latest survey showed that Los Angeles is the city holding the highest average gas price in the contiguous 48 states of the United States, the local DTLA 5 news channel reported Monday.

The bi-weekly survey issued by Calif.-based Lundberg Survey said the average gas price in Los Angeles, the second largest city of the country, is 3.82 U.S. dollars a gallon, while Houston has the lowest average price, only 2.58 U.S. dollars.

The most recent Lundberg Survey of U.S. fuel markets was conducted between Sept. 21 and Oct. 5. Lundberg is an independent market research company specializing in the U.S. petroleum marketing and related industries.

As to nation-wide data, the survey showed that the Oct. 5 national average retail price of regular grade gasoline jumped 6.75 cents per gallon than the last survey period, and it is 41 cents a gallon higher than at this time last year.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg was quoted by the DTLA 5 as saying that rising crude oil prices are the main reason for the increase at gas stations. Enditem
