SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- A policeman was shot dead, and a militant was killed Saturday in a gunfight with troops in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
The gunfight broke out at village Dalipora in Pulwama district, about 32 km from south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"The Pulwama gunfight has ended with the killing of one militant," a police spokesman said. "The identity of slain militant is being ascertained."
A senior police official posted in Pulwama said the joint contingents of police, paramilitary and army cordoned off the village on specific intelligence information suggesting presence of militants.
"While the door-to-door search was going on the militant fired upon the search party triggering a gunfight," the official said.
Meanwhile, a policeman was killed Friday night in Warpora of Sopore town in the northwest of Srinagar.
According to police, militants barged inside the house of Javid Ahmad Lone and fired upon him.
