TEHRAN, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday confirmed that it has received a "written note" from the United States about Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the "Treaty of Amity" signed between the two countries in 1955.

Despite a declaration of withdrawal, the pullout from the "Treaty of Amity" would take at least a year to take effect, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Baharam Qasemi made the remarks in his weekly press conference.

On Oct. 3, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States is terminating the 1955 Treaty of Amity with Iran.

Pompeo's remarks came as the Hague-based International Court of Justice issued a verdict against U.S. unilateral sanctions on Oct. 3, following U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, saying the restoration of sanctions against Iran by U.S. President Donald Trump violates the terms of the treaty between the two countries.
