LISBON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's Coastal Control Unit of the GNR police force detected 30 migrants in an inflatable boat on the Aegean Sea on Wednesday and handed them over to the Greek authorities.
The GNR said in a statement that the migrants were discovered by officers posted to the Greek island of Samos using night-vision equipment as part of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency mission (Frontex).
The Portuguese police have 13 officers and a boat stationed on Samos Island and carry out maritime surveillance operations.
The mission of the Portuguese police is to prevent and detect crimes connected with illegal immigration and human trafficking.
