WINDHOEK, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's national under 23 soccer squad is busy with preparations ahead of their 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola slated for Nov. 16, with the return leg set for Nov. 20 in Windhoek.
Team manager Erastus Someno said on Thursday there are currently 34 players in camp.
"Petrus Kamati and Hubert Mingeri are busy exams and will be joining camp on Friday, whereas Davids Moegamat Yasseen is on trials in the UK, and is expected to join the rest by (at the) latest, Monday," added Someno.
According to Someno, the squad will be trimmed down to 25 players, with 20 players guaranteed to travel, while the five will be short listed.
The technical team consists of head coach, Ronnie Kanalelo, first assistant coach, Quentin Visagie, and second assistant coach, Collin Benjamin.
Someno said that the fitness of the boys has gradually improved and that he is especially pleased with having different objectives for each training session.
"We have been working on passing drills and endurance and we now look forward to polishing game situations and patterns, before facing Angola," he added.
The winner of Namibia and Angola will face South Africa in the second round. And winner of the second round tie will play the winner of Zimbabwe against either Eswatini or Mozambique to qualify for AFCON to be held in Egypt next year.
The AFCON 2019 will see the top three teams qualifying automatically for the 2020 Olympics Games, while the fourth-place finisher plays in a play-off against a team from the Asian Football Confederation. Enditem
