JAKARTA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has put the casualty of quakes and an ensuing tsunami in Central Sulawesi province to 2,086 as financial loss ratcheted up to a 18.48 trillion rupiah (some 1.221 billion U.S. dollars), official said here on Sunday.
"The downside risks on economy in the form of financial losses and damages resulted from the quakes and tsunami are looked rise as the assessments of the impacts has not been completed yet," spokesman of the national disaster management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told Xinhua in a text message.
The provincial capital Palu suffered the most loss, followed by the district of Sigi, Parigi Mountong and Donggala, he cited.
For the forthcoming two-year reconstruction and rehabilitation program, kicking off at the beginning of next month, the province requires more than 10 trillion rupiah (about 657 million U.S. dollars), he said.
The number of the injured was down to 4,438 people and internally-displaced person decreased to 206,542, spreading in a 122 evacuation shelters, the spokesman said.
Heavy downpours on Oct. 21 triggered floods and landslides in several areas in the district of Sigi, hampering access to the catastrophe-devastated areas, said Sutopo.
The aids are transported through air by helicopters, by far, a total of 32.7 tons of emergency relief aids have been channeled to the survivors there, said Sutopo.
The 6.0-, 7.4- and 6.1-magnitude quakes followed by a tsunami by up to 3 meters on Sept. 28 have destroyed 68,451 houses, 327 religious buildings, and 7 bridges, and cracked roads in 168 spots, according to the agency.
Indonesia is prone to earthquake as it lies astrides on a vulnerable quake-affected areas so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
